Kelly Morse was a struggling musician when he opened his first vape and glass shop in Denver in 2015. His entrepreneurial dreams were coming to fruition as he strived for a glimmer of change and success. Kelly kept moving forward and was able to strike a deal with a competitor that positively impacted the company’s future. “The lucrative exchange changed my life and blew up my business over the next two years,” says Kelly.
The financial advantage enabled Kelly to open an additional location and he began to expand rapidly with the help of a wholesaler and the hard work he put into his operation. Kelly now has 6 successful stores across Colorado. “I never thought it would grow to this caliber but I'm truly grateful,” says Kelly.
The tight knit operation includes Kelly’s older brother DaryI and key staff including a GM who oversees all 6 stores. Kelly is in charge of the financials and bookkeeping, taxes and the back office stuff.
Kelly’s band, MIND INCISION was formed in 2022. They released their debut single "Aneurysm of a Narcissist" in March of 2023. The group has gained significant attention from both fans and industry professionals, leading to a record deal with Music Gallery International’s Shawn Barusch. The band is known for writing with deep meaning. Specific songs address particularly sensitive issues like “The Awakening” that deals with the problem of suicide and self harm. “Zero230” brings attention to PTSD and Veterans’ plight after returning home from deployment.
MIND INCISION is currently on the road for the first time. They are playing in the US with Mushroomhead/Upon A Burning Body and then with Tommy Vext.
Kelly has entrusted the business to his brother and his senior staff while he is on tour. A Renaissance man, Kelly is devoted to hard work, passion and perseverance. “As the industry moves forward, new shops are nearby and they mimic my brand. That makes me very uncomfortable. The small shops with counterfeit products make it hard to sell things at their proper price. People don’t know they are getting junk until they buy it. It sucks to see them waste their hard earned money,” says Kelly.
Purple Greens Vape and Glass was founded on customer service and quality products. “We strive to offer a small business family operated atmosphere though it has grown beyond that. It is still important to have the atmosphere of what originally structured the company,” says Kelly.
Kelly Morse is a self-made entrepreneur. His hard work and perseverance is what helped him excel in a competitive and evolving industry. His hope for the future is to stay focused and work hard. Together with his brother and his staff, his unique vape shops will continue to flourish and grow.
Daryl Morse is the Manager of Purple Greens Vape and Glass. His brother, Kelly Morse started the business in 2015. Together they run a tight ship. Daryl runs the day-to-day for all 6 stores. That includes maintenance, buying new products, overseeing staff and sales and more.
Daryl Morse started in construction installing floors, building walls, doing electrical, plumbing and completely gutting and redoing basements. “I enjoyed working construction but knew it was hard on the body and as I started to get older, I realized I needed a change,” says Daryl.
Kelly needed someone he could trust. Daryl owned his own business and knew how to run a company. Daryl was supportive when Kelly launched over a decade ago. “I was excited to see how a small idea could turn into something great. With my brother at the helm, I wanted to be part of the business,” says Daryl.
Daryl has watched the industry evolve and believes the shift from refillable devices to disposables and kratom has changed the way people think about the products. “Customers are learning about the shift in products and are becoming more knowledgeable. “I think that's the most important thing right now,” says Daryl.
Purple Greens continues to thrive and grow as a company. They hope to expand in the near future. “Customer service is the most important factor. We pride ourselves on offering the best devices for the best prices. We are a unique collective of people and I think that's part of our success,” says DaryI.
Jenniffer Roderick started working at Purple Greens as the Covid-19 epidemic broke out in 2020. At the time she was a single mom with a mortgage and grandchildren that depended on her. “I took a big leap and changed jobs during Covid to a position doing Federal payroll,” says Jenn.
Prior to Covid-19, Jenn worked at Wagner Equipment for over 9 years. Wagner specializes in selling equipment for heavy machinery. “ I drove forklifts and pulled orders just like all the guys for 21/2 years.” says Jenn.
By 2021 and after leaving the Federal payroll job, she strolled across the street to the local vape shop that her kids frequented and asked for a part-time job working 20 hours per week. “That's how I started at Purple Greens, they gave me new direction when things were rough,” says Jenn.
Jenn had been working at Purple Greens for 2 months when she had a conversation with Kelly, the owner. “I said you have a general manager who's doing your scheduling. I have a payroll background and I have customer service and scheduling experience. They believed in me and gave me the opportunity to step up. I started taking over a handful of duties from the previous manager,” says Jenn.
Jenn also assists with purchasing, distribution and scheduling the staff. “When I first started with the company, we only had five stores and a staff of 15 people. We now have six stores with 28 people on staff,” explains Jenn.
Jenn’s days are busy and every day is different. “I handle certain aspects of the business. Then I work on the schedule to review products on our wholesale list. We oversee wholesale shopping and distribute the majority of the products. I also process payroll and distribute anything that needs to be sent,” says Jenn.
Purple Greens offers an array of products. “My personal favorites are the 510 batteries and the local glass pieces. Our most popular products are kratom, tinctures and vapes,” says Jenn.
Jenn is excited with the growth of the company and hopes that it will continue. “I pride myself on making sure that we have a family-like environment throughout the company. I have one of the simplest open door policies because I love to engage with everybody. Hopefully that makes me a good leader,” says Jenn.
As the industry changes, many products are evolving. “The vape line with flavors and innovative device options is where I've seen the most growth,” says Jenn.
Jenn a.k.a. Mama Bear in the store and at home feels lucky to have the opportunity to work with Purple Greens. “It's the best job I've ever had with the best boss. We are all so close, I'm grateful every day,” says Jenn.
